The book is a tribute to people living with AIDS who refuse to give up the fight. It also documents the photographer’s own battle with the disease. For him art was a way of ‘overcoming HIV’. He organized the first AIDS Related Art exhibition during the 1992 International AIDS Conference in Amsterdam and his last exhibition New Heroes opened in July 1994 – a month before his death.
