Photojournalist Robert Capa was asked to join the Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens and his cameraman John Fernhout as stills photographer and camera assistant on their film The 400 Million (1939). This study re-examines the relationship between Capa and Ivens while they were travelling and working together in China during the Sino-Japanese War in 1938.
